About
John Gurley, circa 1860s
Bicefamily.com is just that…a website used by the Bice Family for sharing photos, family updates, etc. Specifically? The Bice Families in Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Alabama use and maintain the content of this site.
As a side project, this site is also a search for genealogical content relating to the Bice/Buis, Schwarz, Kitchens, Gurley, Grellner, Bogner, Ziegler families and beyond. My Aunt Carol (great aunt if we are being terribly accurate) piqued my curiosity about the family history, and along with a Grellner Family book and a Bogner family book - I started collecting what information I could regarding our ancestry. What you can find on this site are the results of those conversations, emails, and other correspondence.
Knowing my family made the Oklahoma Land Run made it an easy place to start - as my great grandparents helped to settle Okarche, OK. What I did not know was that my dad’s grandfather never knew his father - he was struck by lightning and died in a field a few months before his last son was born. That was one of the first challenges…finding anything before William H. Bice in the 1800’s.
The information in the genealogy portion of the site is in a constant state of change and growth; sometimes quickly, most often slowly. However, clicking through the information gathered is like stepping back in history or paging through an old book. You can visit any page at random, yet have no difficulty finding your way back to the beginning and wandering off again.
Hopefully having this information out here will encourage anyone that does have expanded information on any of the extended family members to contact us and allow us to include their portion of the story. Our overall intent is to flesh out this information as accurately as possible, while at the same time providing it to others who may find it as interesting as we do.
